Yes, there is snow but it is not on the roads and it's just around for beautiful pictures and cute effects. It is uncrowded in North Tahoe and the boots on the ground fun has just begun. The hot tub is just perfect...and there are still areas where you can ski!

Squaw Valley reports a 110 inch base with no new updated totals.

I will have further updates as I get real ski and snowboarders to rate their favorites. We had real snow and have been cold enough to make snow daily.
When I last went to Northstar it was absolutely amazing coverage and that was quite late in the spring.
All local restaurants have wonderful Thanksgiving dinners..

Northstar at Tahoe hosts Toyota Championship
February 18 - February 22
Calling Shaun White "The Flying Tomato" is like calling San Francisco "Frisco" - it's stupid. Be that as it may, some moron will yell it out sometime next week as Mr. White seeks to maintain his #1 spot at the end-up for the Dew Tour put on by NBC and MTV at Northstar.
Currently he's holding down both the Superpipe and Slopestyle top spots and is coming off another gold at the Winter X Games in Aspen where he was the first athlete to win double, back-to-back golds. With that out of the way, the living legend of snowboarding is headed to Lake Tahoe next week to compete for a grab at the $1.5 million dollar purse put up by MTV and NBC.
Training starts on Wednesday, February 18 with the finals obviously going down over the weekend.
Other rock stars on the Snowboard side of the vibe in order of standing coming out of Breckenridge, include: Danny Davis, Scotty Lago, Steve Fischer with the women being rounded out by Kelly Clark, Hannah Teeter, Kjersti Østgaard and Elena Hight.
MTV is obviously bringing it's entertainment factor in the way of music with a concert performance on Friday afternoon at 5 p.m. Relatively unknown, obscure and very weird, Los Angeles based Tweak Bird opens for Common, who's no stranger to Tahoe. He played a supporting role at South Lake Tahoe's Montbleu Resort a few years ago in "Smokin' Aces" with Jeremy Piven and directed by local Sac State grad, Joe Carnahan.

Wonderful weekend in Tahoe.....snow to play in and a wonderful safe and sane New Year's Eve. On New Year's Day I went for an early morning run and there weren't any swerving cars at all.
The last four days were non stop in the office, with Friday being a 7:00 AM to 11:00 PM day. Someone who has stayed here before called and I promised to call back. When the time came, I couldn't find the paper even after searching the paper recycle area. If I missed you, please call back. Sorry about that.

Hi,
I put ski conditions on the blog December 26th...along with a picture which I just liked of the Flume Trail.....it does not look like that right now!!!It's thick with fluffy snow but the view is just as wonderful.
Things are gearing up for a wonderful New Year's eve...check my previous blog for local action including live music. Also try Garwood's restaurant for live music and drink specials as well as raffle prizes on Fridays..
Things are very busy here filling up so get your reservations first and read my other blogs for info later....just bring warm gear, ski or sport gear, and maybe something dressy if you want to really bring in the New Year in style. Of course, this is Tahoe so it's pretty laid back if you prefer.

It's beautiful here! We got snow and it's fluffy and sparkling in the sunshine.
There's more coming tonight-just in time for a fantastic weekend and holiday week coming up. I've got a fire going and Starbucks French Roast in the lobby....
my husband and sons went skiing yesterday at Northstar with the NTMS band and had a great time.
Here are the latest conditions for local ski resorts from Tahoe Dave's Skis and Boards...
Mt. Rose has a 17-23" base with 8 of 17 lifts open
Squaw Valley has a 36" base with 12 of 32 lifts open
Sugar Bowl has a 23-31" base with 6 of 12 lifts open
Northstar has a 21-14" base with 8 of 17 lifts open
Homewood has a 24-32" base with number of lifts not listed
Diamond Peak has earlier totals of 12-24" with new totals not listed; 3 of 8 lifts open
Boreal has earlier totals of 31-40" with 2 of 10 lifts open which I will check on as I am guessing they have more than enough snow to get more lifts open.
Donner has only earlier totals of 4" with no lifts open and in a similar way Alpine reported a 40-50" base with no lifts open so I will call the resorts for a better update as Alpine sounds amazing!
I'm seeing pretty decent lift prices so with gas going down and our fantastic room rates, now is a great time to get winter really rolling.
We have small rooms, large rooms and unusually large rooms; some with kitchens, one with an in room whirlpool bath....many great options for you to choose from. We have six designated pet rooms and of course all are smoke free. If you are a smoker, wait until you see the cool surroundings when you step outside....we are truly in a world of our own. We are about 100 yds. from the lake and all around us are beautiful trees. We are on two wells so we get mountain fresh water running in the tap and shower! We are a quaint, rustic Tahoe experience that looks like a holiday movie. In fact, there have been a few winter movies filmed in this area, most notably
Indian Love Call, starring Jeanette McDonald-the first movie to be filmed at Lake Tahoe in the 1920's. Subsequent films have included The Godfather, starring Al Pacino and Marlon Brando and The Bodyguard, filmed at Fallen Leaf Lake, starring Kevin Costner and Whitney Houston and we now can lay claim to The Snowman which was filmed just over the hill..starring some great local kids.

Some well known neighbors include and have included Charles Bronson, Cher, Natalie Cole, Sammy Davis Jr., Liza Minelli, Wayne Newton and the Captain and Tennille,Robin Williams, Prince....I could go on and on. Many lakeside homes are "little" getaways for the rich and famous.
Our secret treasure is Leonard Nimoy who is not at all full of himself but a great guy I hear...just please don't call him Mr. Spock as his talents have taken him way beyond just one role.
Is it obvious that I love Tahoe? It didn't start out that way. I was a barefoot kid from San Diego who didn't have layers of clothes or warm boots but I have grown to love the vast beauty of the lake and our quiet splendor and of course long distance running without as much sweating! This is a safe place with lots of activities and cultural pursuits available but also lots of wide open space for those who really need to wind down and take in the fresh air...or look at the pretty sites from the window of your warm room while you read a book. If you forget your book, don't worry...I've got books to borrow as well as games and videos. I have wireless in the lobby or on the bench with a view outside.
Come up and try it yourself....I think we will grow on you.
Friday update
I just got information on an amazing snowmobile adventure site...
this one is 14 miles north of Truckee (which is 9 miles from us) and is on a huge property and really sounds like an adventure to tell everyone at home about.
They are called Eagle Ridge Snowmobile Inc. and I have flyers in the office.
There's something for almost anyone in North Lake Tahoe..you will love it and return again year after year. All seasons are so beautiful...it looks like our storm is over for now and we have fun powder to play in.
Time for a little hot apple cider..

So many have asked about Sean and Julie....we miss them too. They are happy and full speed ahead in Cincinnati...still in love with each other, life, family and their pets.
Thanks for all the good words from you. Sean is my son and Julie my daughter-in-law and they made so many friends here that I have tall shoes to fill.
Here's a little ski tip..

Skiing is a one ski at a time sport. The single hardest thing in skiing is to shift your weight and balance fully on the gliding ski. If you find yourself waddling along while skating, unable to generate momentum and getting very tired, you are not effectively shifting your bodyweight completely from ski to ski. Do your skis "slap" the snow when striding? Guess what, you are not shifting from ski to ski fully. This is particularly subtle when striding because you can still move along OK but by not fully committing to each ski, you are working harder than necessary. How do you correct this? Throw those poles away! Find a flat section of the trail, like the start / finish area or the back side of the West Overlook loop and ski without poles. This will teach you balance and proper technique, as it is very difficult to go anywhere without poles unless you shift your weight. Another method is to try and exaggerate the glide phase while skiing. Take careful note of what position your body must be in to successfully balance for an extended period of time and then try to achieve that position when you ski. Just a few minutes with these two drills every time you ski and you will notice improvement in a short period of time.

You can skate at the Olympic Ice Pavilion from noon to 4 daily, or try the indoor climbing wall….or maybe some wonderful moments by the fire with someone special. Upcoming holiday movies are great fun at our theaters…the popcorn is really good. For those who would love to see something VERY different, try watching for Tahoe Tessie…or own lake Nessie.

Our area features fantastic restaurants close by and as far away as two miles! Our favorite sushi place in the world is here (Hiro's) and from all the pics of stars, I’m guessing we are not alone. The Mexican restaurant (Las Panchitas) is all home made authentic food with the best beans, fajitas, taquitos etc and fastest service around. We have a new owner at Captain Jac’s who is cooking up some very fresh stylish fare or try a lakeside table for steak and seafood at Garwood's. And breakfasts are just as fantastic! Log Cabin Café has a bit of a wait and most people are repeats because they have amazing breakfasts…like Salmon Eggs Benedict with fresh home fries and fruit as well as fresh squeezed orange juice and very fresh coffee A lot of people like a little gaming and head up to our casinos three miles up the road…
Of course they do have the kind of casino meal specials everyone has come to expect but not get in Las Vegas…Tahoe is a foodie’s heaven and since so many people are active here, we all look forward to a little reward for our efforts. The casinos also have live music and comedy and we have live music at several places like Garwood’s…

The weather has finally warmed up here on the north shore, reaching over 80 at some points during the day! It's beautiful!

We are starting to book up for the Fourth of July all of the sudden! It's very exciting! I for one, am incredibly excited about the fireworks displays that will be put on this year! Here's what the schedule looks like right now for the shows (courtesy of Tahoe's Best:

Tahoe City Fourth of July Fireworks Celebration
Join the north shore community for the annual spectacular on Commons Beach, downtown Tahoe City. Come early to picnic, meet your neighbors and claim your spot on the beach. Fireworks start at 9:30pm.

Summertime Activities

Now that Summer is finally here, the North Shore of Lake Tahoe is gearing up with all sorts of great activities! There's just about everything you could possibly want to do, going on right now!

This weekend, for Father's day there's a ton going on, you can treat dad to the Father's Day Champagne Brunch at the Tahoe Biltmore and then take him out golfing at any one of the major courses in the area. For a map of local courses, visit TahoeActivities.com's golf course map page.

Coming up on the 18th of June is the Tour De Nez bicycle racing even at Northstar-at-Tahoe. For more info, visit: TourDeNez.com.
